Law, South Lanarkshire
Coordinates: 55°45′00″N 3°52′57″W / 55.750096°N 3.882584°W
Law is a village situated between Carluke and Wishaw in South Lanarkshire, Scotland with a population of around 2,800. The village lies on the border of North Lanarkshire.
Law is a former mining village, now mainly a low density residential area. For a village so small, Law has a wide range of services, which include Law Community Centre, Scotmid, Post Office, The Auld Store village bar, Boots Pharmacy, Maggies Takeaway, two hair salons, Law Bowling Club, the Room and Kitchen (coffee shop) and various other services, the majority of which can be found on Station Road, the village's main street.
Law Parish Church can be found on Station Road. The church is part of the Church of Scotland (Presbyterian) and seeks to provide spiritual and pastoral care to anyone in the parish, church member or not, who requires it. A variety of organisations take place in the church for people of all ages including a very large and well run Boys' Brigade and Girls' Brigade.
Law Primary School has about 300 pupils and with older pupils going on to attend Carluke High School 4 miles away.
Irvine's Coaches was a bus company based in the village that ran services throughout Lanarkshire and surrounding areas, but have now creased trading.
The West Coast Main Line runs through the Village but the station was closed down several years ago. However there has been much speculation that it may be reopened in the near future, due to the building of many new homes on the old site of Law Hospital. If re-opened, cities such as Glasgow and Edinburgh could be accessible from Law by train.
The hospital on the outskirts of Law Village has since been closed, with all patients to visit Wishaw General Hospital, located in the Craigneuk area of Wishaw.
Law Parish Church AFC, formed in 2011, is the village's local team, sponsored by the Tandoori Palace take-away. Their home games are played at Law Park and training at John Cumming Stadium in Carluke. The team are currently in Division Three of the Strathclyde Evangelical Churches League.

South Lanarkshire Council loses 'pay scales' case
A Scottish Council could face a legal payout of approximately £200,000 after the Supreme Court ruled it had no right to withhold information about its pay levels. Action 4 Equality Scotland campaigner, Mark Irvine, wanted to know if South Lanarkshire Council had paid more money for jobs traditionally done by men, and had asked the Council for details about its pay scales in May 2010. However, the Council rejected the requests, claiming it would breach the Data Protection Act.

Action 4 Equality Scotland: South Lanarkshire
Now here's a heartwarming story which appeared in the Herald newspaper the other day - about a young boy's fight for justice, the opportunity to learn how to play the guitar - and the right to be treated no differently to his friends. Regular readers will understand the significance straight away - the council that has fallen foul of the Equality Act is none other than our old friend - South Lanarkshire Council.

Jonathan Mitchell QC >> What’s wrong with South Lanarkshire?
South Lanarkshire Council has long had a certain reputation for Brezhnevism. Recently it seems to have excelled itself by bringingthreatening proceedings for defamation ((They say they didn't; but this is what the victims say.)) in Lanark Sheriff Court against the membership of a local community council for an article on its website which linked to another article on a different organisation's website entitled "South Lanarkshire Council and Scottish Coal Hand-in-Hand at Community LIE-aison Meeting”. I have never before heard of a Scottish local authority attempting to bring a defamation action at all, let alone one like this which is done purely to shut up ordinary political criticism. No authority with any appreciation of the right of free speech, and its relationship with the rule of law, could abuse the legal system like this. This sort of legal action happens in Russia, which is one reason why Russia keeps the European Court of Human Rights so busy: but until now, it didn't happen in Scotland
