Lipiduria
Lipiduria, also termed Lipuria, is the presence of lipids in the urine.1
Lipuria is most frequently observed in nephrotic syndrome where it is passed as lipoproteins along with other proteins.
Lipuria has also been reported as a sign following fat embolism.
When lipiduria occurs, these cells contain endogenous fats. When filled with numerous fat droplets, such cells are called oval fat bodies. Oval fat bodies exhibit a "Maltese cross" configuration under polarized light microscopy.
This Maltese cross is because of its liquid-crystalline structure giving it a double refraction (birefringence.)

How do renal diseases present?
I’ve had quite a few questions about renal pathology lately. Some of you want to know how to differentiate renal diseases clinically (is it glomerular? or tubulointerstitial?), and some of you are more concerned about how to tell apart the different causes of glomerulonephritis.

Renal Fellow Network: Fabry's Disease
Fabry's Disease is an X-linked disease caused by a mutation in the alpha-galactosidase A gene, resulting in the accumulation of glycosphingolipids within lysosomes. In the kidney under electron microscopy, this is manifested as the presence of multiple round "onion-skin" inclusion bodies (see EM on the left).

Where Do Gorillas Get Their Protein?: Fat Doesn’t “Flush”!
Wouldn’t it be great if you could just “flush” your excess body fat down the toilet? Overweight people love that idea, so they’re vulnerable to anyone who promises that they can simply “flush” their fat away. The problem is that “fat flushing” doesn’t work.
