Population, Theories of
A population is a summation of all the organisms of the same group or species, who live in the same geographical area, and have the capability of interbreeding.
In ecology, the population of a certain species in a certain area is estimated using the Lincoln Index. The area that is used to define a sexual population is defined as the area where inter-breeding is potentially possible between any pair within the area. The probability of interbreeding is greater than the probability of cross-breeding with individuals from other areas. Under normal conditions, breeding is substantially more common within the area than across the border.
In sociology, population refers to a collection of human beings. Demography is a social science which entails the statistical study of human populations. This article refers mainly to human population.

Scholarly Research Articles: The Relevance of Malthusian and Boserup Population Theories in an Economy
Malthusian theory of population published in his essay, The Principle of Population, is a pessimistic theory that foretold that population growth would surpass the rate of creation of main consumer goods leading to conflict. Malthus in his theory predicted that food supply would grow at an arithmetic progression rate; 1, 2, 3, and so o

Darwinian Conservatism by Larry Arnhart: James Mackintosh and Darwin's Evolutionary Theory of Morality
On June 23rd, the opening lecture for the Mont Pelerin Society conference on evolution in the Galapagos will be by David Kohn, a Professor Emeritus of the History of Science at Drew University, who is well known for his editing and scholarly studies of Darwin's manuscripts and notebooks. Although I have not yet seen his paper, his title--"The Scottish Enlightenment, Malthus, and Darwin's Theory of Evolution"--suggests that he will emphasize the influence of Malthus in shaping Darwin's formulation of his theory of evolution.
