Justification and Critique: Towards a Critical Theory of Politics
Rainer Forst, 2013
Rainer Forst develops a critical theory capable of deciphering the deficits and potentials inherent in contemporary political reality. This calls for a perspective which is immanent to social and political practices and at the same time transcends them. Forst regards society as a whole as an ‘order of justification’ comprising complexes of differen...

Toleration in Conflict: Past and Present (Ideas in Context)
Rainer Forst, 2013
The concept of toleration plays a central role in pluralistic societies. It designates a stance which permits conflicts over beliefs and practices to persist while at the same time defusing them, because it is based on reasons for coexistence in conflict - that is, in continuing dissension. A critical examination of the concept makes clear, however...

The Right to Justification: Elements of a Constructivist Theory of Justice by Rainer Forst | Ethics & International Affairs
In this book--a tour de force that exhibits both a compelling, unified vision and a wide range of concrete insights--Forst explains how his unified theory provides a universal and indubitable basis for “constructing” human rights, by which he means both justifying them and generating their content.

Thomas Besch’s Critique of Rainer Forst’s Constructivism | ABC Democracy
Thomas M. Besch (Sydney) has posted a new manuscript at PhilPapers, criticizing Rainer Forst’s constructivist theory of human rights: Reflections on the foundations of human rights (PDF) Abstract: Is there an approach to human rights that justifies rights-allocating moral-political principles as principles that are equally acceptable by everyone to whom they apply, while grounding them in categorical, reasonably non-rejectable foundations? The paper examines Rainer Forst‟s constructivist attempt to provide such an approach.
