Rashid Rida
Muhammad Rashid Rida (Arabic: محمد رشيد رضا‎; transliteration, Muḥammad Rashīd Riḍāʾ; Ottoman Syria, 23 September 1865–Egypt, 22 August 1935) was an early Islamic reformer, whose ideas would later influence 20th-century Islamist thinkers in developing a political philosophy of an "Islamic state". Rida is said to have been one of the most influential and controversial scholars of his generation and was deeply influenced by the Salafi movement founded in Cairo by Muhammad Abduh.
Rida was born near Tripoli in Al-Qalamoun, now in Lebanon but then part of Ottoman Syria within the Ottoman Empire). His early education consisted of training in "traditional Islamic subjects". In 1884-5 he was first exposed to al-`Urwa al-wuthqa, the journal of the Jamal al-Din al-Afghani and Muhammad Abduh. In 1897 he left Syria for Cairo to collaborate with Abduh and the following year they launched al-Manar, a weekly and then monthly journal comprising Quranic commentary at which Rida worked until his death in 1935.

Neo-Salafism: Rashid Rida and the Wahhabification of Salafism in the 20th Century
2011
This text explores the origins of the marriage between Salafism and Wahhabism. Today the terms are used interchangeably, but it was not always so. Originally Salafism was a more or less progressive movement. Within a short time, however, it was hijacked by Rashī‎d Riḍā, a notorious supporter of Wahhabism and the Sa`udi royal family.

The Arab Bureau Files: Sir Mark Sykes and Rashid Rida (FO 882/13)
This report, authored by Sykes on 15th July 1915, is titled 'Interviews in Cairo with Syrians, Arabians, Armenians and Moslems on the general situation' and represents an attempt on the part of Sykes to feel out the prevailing mood with regard to the Arab policy then being pursued by Cairo. Among many interesting conversations, Sykes records the Egyptian Sultan Husayn Kamil declaring a desire for Syria come under his authority, commenting that 'I think that this view is not the result of any personal ambition, but a natural desire on the part of a descendent of Mohammed Ali to restore once more the kingdom as the genius of the founder of his house conceived it'.

Nahda and Its Ills | salamamoussa
It is curious that when the MB declared its executive vision for Egypt "Mashrou' El-Nahda" no one has bothered to look closely at that word, but rather it was accepted through its generic meaning : "Renaissance".
