$6,400 Grapes Sold In Japan | The Jane Dough
And by grapes, no, we don't mean wine. We mean grapes. A small bag of about 25 of them. Japan Real Time reports that a single bunch of Ruby Roman grapes sold in Japan today for ¥500,000, or $6,400, making them by far the most expensive grapes sold in Japan and likely in the world. We'd certainly hope so! At that rate, each grape costs about $255. Ruby Romans are a specific, artfully-engineered grape with specific requirements, like sugar content and size and color and so on. Apparently they're about the size of a ping pong ball, which sounds pretty big, grapefully speaking. This luxurious breed of grapes first went on the market in 2008 – and prices have shot up and up.
